Sharpness isn't everything...
I have always looked at sharpness as just one of the tools in the box.
Used well a lack of cutting clarity can set the mood and convey the intended message - used badley it can look like a very sad cleche, that makes you cringe at the sight.
Added to other tools at your disposal, like bokeh, available light and movement and the scene's that you can set take you away from the forensically accurate towards an interpretation of your own naritive.
